As we prepare to begin the 2020-2021 school year with a virtual platform for instruction, we continue to evaluate athletic programs and make decisions in the best interest of our CCSMS school-community.  Our belief is scholar and coach safety are paramount for all involved within Riptide Athletics.  During these challenging times in all athletic arenas, it has become increasingly difficult to ensure that safety from COVID exposure will be consistent.

Recently, the start of the high school volleyball season was delayed due to COVID precautions and data from DHEC and the SCHSL.  Even though teams may begin practice on August 24th, there continues to be a likelihood the season start could further be delayed.

Therefore, we have made the decision not to sponsor middle school volleyball teams at CCSMS this fall.

Our middle school volleyball teams compete in the Low Country Volleyball League through the City of Charleston, Department of Recreation.  This fall, the league is requiring school teams to be formed and registered no later than August 28th.  With limited time to organize, structure, practice, and prepare, it is prudent to allow CCSMS scholars the opportunity to join a league team, if they choose to participate as an individual.

If a scholar would like to participate and join a Low Country League team as an individual, they should contact:

Robin J. Cooper

Athletic Superintendent

The decision to not offer middle school volleyball this fall, is a one-year, temporary decision.  It is our intent to field multiple middle school volleyball teams for the 2021-2022 season and beyond.

All questions regarding this decision should be directed to the Athletic Director.
